Durga Puja one of the popular and biggest festivals in West Bengal, specially in Kolkata. Rest of the states in India also celebrate this holistic celebration, even i few places, abroad also celebrate this occasion. Here, we Hindu, believe that Goddess Durga have killed the demon Mahishasura and destroy all bad powers. We can say - “victory of good over evil”
Maa Durga - Goddess of power... She is "Shakti Daini", "Jagata Tarini", Bhigna Nashini", "Triguna Dharini"
With her ten hands and ten weapons, she fights with demon... She has two daughters and two sons. They are Lakshmi and Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesh.. During Durga Puja, Maa always come to her mother's place with her daughters and sons.
According to our hindu grantha, Durga Maa starts her journey from in Kailash to her mother's place on "Mahalaya" Day.
Total No of puja days - 5 Days
Those are Sasthi, Saptami, Asthami Nabami & Vijaya Dashami..
Sasthi - First day od Durga Puja but puja starts from Maha Saptami with the bath of "Kala Bou" (Wife of Ganesha) in the very early morning. Maha Asthami is the main day among 5 days.... Also one of the special moments - Sandhi Puja which is very very important part of this festival.. Sandhi Puja happens between end of Maha Asthami and starting of Maha Nabami... Basically this is a connector of Asthami & Nabami ....
On the last day, the day of “Vijoya Dashami” images and idols are immersed in water. After that the time is to "Baron" time to Maa Durga with a wish "Abar Eso Maa" and alms are distributed with each other and also making pranam to elders to wish Vijoya Dashami with sweets & smiling faces..
